Céad mile fáilte!

Otherworld is much closer than you might think...

'She created a world for her sons, woven from the firmament with her melodic song – a beautiful world of greens and blues and reds, and purples. An unimaginable myriad of colours: of flowers and trees, of grass and water and the bluest of blue skies. And she called this place, Glaseód; the green jewel. A land bordered on one side by ice and on the other by desert. But the place where they resided was lush and temperate and perfect.'

Story of Otherworld

Book One - The Heart of the Realm

The Heart of the Realm is the first part of the Otherworld (suburban) fantasy adventure series, filled with twists, turns, deception, and deceit, with a cast of marvellously bizarre creatures of all shapes and sizes. Based on Celtic mythology, the story is set between two intertwined worlds: our modern-day Earth and the beautiful, ephemeral realm of Glaseód, home to the race of beings known as the Tuatha dé Danann. Glaseód is a mystical place that hides a dark and terrible secret.

When Aimee Briar wakes on the morning of her thirteenth birthday, her life is turned upside down. She learns her entire existence is a lie, and, Rather than being a typical teenage girl living a normal life in the idyllic Hampshire suburbs, she is, in fact, a nymph princess and heir to the throne of a dying magical kingdom. Now that Aimee has come of age, her people need her to overthrow the ferocious Fomorian tyrant, Rí Mhórdúil, and banish darkness from the Realm before it completely consumes their world.

With an oddball assembly of fantastical comrades – including her quirky best friend, a foul-mouthed Leprechaun, a flamboyant smuggler, and a borderline sociopathic nymph – Aimee must embark on a quest across both worlds to recover four mysterious treasures. She must overcome each treasure’s guardian, fend off the king’s malign forces, and hold her rebel companions together, all the while learning to control burgeoning elemental powers. This is a lot to ask of any teenager, especially when all she wants to do is return to her old, boring life.

Meanwhile, Rí Mhórdúil seeks a fifth treasure, the Heart of the Realm, prophesied to make its bearer all-powerful. And he believes Aimee has the Heart in her possession.

But the despotic, self-appointed king of Glaseód also has his avaricious sights set on another target: our modern world – the Otherworld – resplendent with technologies beyond his wildest dreams. And yet, is there more to his desire to escape the Realm? But what nameless terror could motivate such a fearsome foe to flee? What is the Realm’s sinister secret?

“Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.”

Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time.
